Skip to content Featured Posts 7.Anki is a spaced repetition flashcard software. Put simply, this means you'll do a card today, then tomorrow, then 3 days after that, then 7 days, etc.

By showing you flashcards right before you are theoretically about to forget them, this method is both effective and efficient. Check out this video for more. The honest answer is there are no "best" settings. It is very important that you understand the anki algorithm and what the settings do so that you can tailor them to your personal needs.

For starters, we recommend following our recommended settings. There is another popular video on YouTube by Conaana and we have posted our thoughts on their settings vs ours here. We have a video on how to make effective cards.

Another good place to start is to read this article about the 20 rules of formulating knowledge. This is an error with the Nightmode add-on.

Ease hell is when you've hit "again" or "hard" so many times that the ease of your cards is very low. This leads to you doing more cards than is actually necessary. The most often cause of this is a user who doesn't understand the anki algorithm.

Picmonic + Anki = Win

See this video explaining ease hell and how to fix it. Check out this video for how to set up a controller. For windows, we recommend Joy2Key and for mac we recommend Enjoyable. The Anki iOS app recently had an update that allows mapping a controller in the settings. This is one of our most commonly asked questions. We would actually recommend that you leave your max interval at 6 months or more, despite your test coming before that.

If your card is scheduled out to 3 months, then theoretically you should remember that fact for 3 months. If you feel you need to review your flashcards more before a test, we'd recommend using the custom filtered decks. Beyond that, practice questions will actually be better than additional reviews and help you better synthesize the information. There are a few ways to do this: 1.It has allowed me to have a life outside of studying by freeing up time for leisure, basketball, gymming, hanging out, tutoring, research, school club events, and more on top of all the material we have to study for classes.

I never crammed for a single exam in medical school using this method. I constantly get asked about how to use Anki. Most people start using Anki and give it up shortly afterwards because of the steep learning curve in trying to figure out the software and mobile apps.

For that reason, I am going to lay out how to use Anki for the first two years of medical school. For now, you should to do as I say and trust the process, but those of you who are curious I recommend reading the official Anki manual.

These will be a series of posts about how to use Anki in different areas of studying such as for boards and for class. I tried to keep this tutorial as concise as possible without compromising anything. If you have any questions, just reach out to me. Before you can follow along in setting up Anki, you will need to download the following.

You can download Anki 2. Read more about recommended Add-ons for Anki. After installing all of the above, restart Anki and all the addons should fire up. There are other popular decks so pick one you like. My system will work with any deck as long as the cards are organized by tags. If you wish to use a deck which is not organized by hierarchical tags, you have to tag the cards yourself or download an auto tagger add-on.

These decks can be found in the sidebar of the Medical School Anki Subreddit. To install a deck, download it and double click on the. You need to do a few more things before you can continue. Click the gear icon next to the main decks to open up [Options]. The [Options group:] should be [Default]. For the [Default] options group, change the settings as shown below:. Now for this options group, change the settings as shown below:.

Anki allows you to have a different options group for each deck but you really need just two, the default and the one you customized. Initially, all decks should be set to Default. You are almost ready to start studying.

First, go to the Browser and click [Whole Collection]. Highlight all of the cards and click [Suspend]. Suspended cards will be highlighted in yellow.

Optionally, move those cards to the 'Combined Current' deck if you are studying them for a current module. Using this system, you should be chiseling away at the "Combined Review" deck day by day until all cards are eventually ' Mature ' and are solidly ingrained in your mind.

These cards are still considered high yield according to First Aid and Pathoma so I recommend un-suspending them at some point and going through them just like your regular cards. As for cards that you made for class during a current module, it is up to you if you want to continue studying them or suspend them indefinitely never delete them.

I like to continue studying them since the interval keeps getting longer and longer and it takes very little time to review. Click the [Stats] icon from the main decks and see how many new cards you have waiting for you.

Now count the number of days you have before your next exam minus a few days.So I thought I would share these with you, and maybe you can benefit from it. You can even edit it to suit your needs! I like it a lot and use it to really solidify concepts that I feel weak in i.I was so unimpressed with using it at first that I was going to actually write a post about how bad it was.

But I just stopped using it and carried on. Well, I got burned on a couple of subjects and, after listening to how some friends used Picmonic to score much better than I did I realized that I would have to take a 2nd look at it. The vignettes, although sometimes a bit jarring to my delicate sensibilities, stick with you in such a way that you are able to get diseases, viruses, conditions in your mind all at the same time. How do I use Anki with Picmonic? Picmonic now has a spaced repetition driven Daily Quiz!

This allowed me to learn each Picmonic pretty quickly. Anki was working just fine for me but was a bit time consuming. If you are a second year student who has memory issues like me, you will appreciated Picmonic.

If you can add Anki flashcards with your use of Picmonic, I think you will have a long term solution for scoring well on boards.

Retagged lolnotacop so every video is tagged by video previously some of them were combined. Removed erroneous tags for everything. Tagged cards in the lolnotacop BnB stuff that are on topics not covered in the sketchy videos.

I moved the pictures to the top of the extras field except syphilis chancres…. I fixed a lot of spelling errors and changed some formatting. I removed just a few cloze deletions that were unnecessary only a few. I edited a few incorrect cards-I did most of this before deciding to start this project and thus they are not tagged i.

I didn't actually do the antineoplastic or neoplasia deck in lolnotacop, but I went through it quickly and it seemed very good. I retagged many of Pathoma cards in Zanki by video. I also retagged the lolnotacop Ch. I recommend using the Zanki Neoplasia deck first and supplementing with the lolnotacop Ch.

I've included them under the ZankiToast tag. The tags are now arranged such that is for resources i. There are two versions of sketchy tags under the zankipharm-dream and zankipharm-toast tags. If you would like to join the project please message me! No more missing images.
